The University of Maryland, College Park, is set to introduce new dining hall “Fast Passes” in the upcoming months. While freshmen may still be settling into their brand-new dorms, their dining habits have long since settled. Noticing the lines reaching all the way to the Yahentamitsi dish return, University of Maryland Dining announced its plan to implement Fast Passes for popular dishes like orange chicken, salmon, and cookies.

The new fast passes would allow the few lucky students to bypass wait times in the dining hall and help themselves to some sweet, sweet orange chicken without waiting in line.

“The Fast Passes are so students can enjoy some of our less popular dishes, or maybe eat at a different dining hall, while they wait for their time to skip the line,” said Yahentamitsi head chef Chad McNugget, while adding five gallons of oil to a batch of what appeared to be unsalted pasta. “They’re sure to cut down on the dinner rush crowds.”

“I’m not sure how I feel about it yet,” said freshman Aerobioengineering Science major Jake Smith when asked about the passes. “I sure would love to flex on noobs when I cut the line, but the waiting always helps me and my buddies practice for the Cstone line on weekends.”

“I think the Fast Passes are a great idea!” said senior Business major Michael Smith— no relation to Jake Smith. “If there’s one thing I love more than money, it’s taking the easy way out, so I think this is a great idea! Go Terps!”

Like most things UMD does, the Passes are being met with a fearlessly forward mindset and eventual reluctant acceptance. Starting next semester, students can use all their Dining Dollars to purchase Fast Passes through a UMD partnership with Ticketmaster.
